Attention Southern Shores Boat Club Members (SSBC)

THE GAMS ARE BACK for 2022!

Breakfast GAM, Thursday, January 13th, 8:30 AM Duck Woods Country Club, West Entrance

DWCC will be following the current NC Department of Health COVID Restaurant and the DWCC Board requirements. DWCC advises that if you are fully vaccinated, masks are not required. Masks are required for the unvaccinated when walking around the dining area.
Our Guest Speakers will be Park Ranger 1, Jennifer Cox, who will enlighten us about our Jockey's Ridge State Park. She grew up to the west of Winston-Salem as the daughter of a small and large animal veterinarian and on a small farm, and went to school at UNC-Wilmington. She started with parks at Fort Fisher State Recreation Area and Carolina Beach State Park. She was excited about her transfer to Jockey’s Ridge State Park in 2002. She is married to a local underwater bridge inspector, so she is probably not going anywhere for some time. I live with a diver-spouse, a spoiled cat, and a rambunctious dog. In my spare time I love to run (yes, for fun) and spend time in my studio painting with oils.
So What Do You Know About Jockey's Ridge State Park?
  1. Do you know when & how sand dunes were formed at Jockey's Ridge?
  2. How big are the dunes in comparison with other  dunes in the US & World?
  3. Do you know if the dunes are rising or shrinking?
  4. With all that OBX wind, where is the sand moving?
  5. Can one camp or have a fire on the dunes?
  6. How does the dune interface with the Sound, adjacent residential property and the bypass?
  7. What is the story about the small sandcastle seen from the bypass?
  8. Is there any unique wildlife or flora that calls Jockey's Ridge home?

Questions?

George Berry (not the SSCA) will need to provide an exact head-count of attendees to the Duck Woods Country Club for breakfast on the Monday before the GAM (1/10/22).

It is important that you email your reservation to George Berry directly at [email protected] if you plan on attending.

If you need to cancel your reservation for any reason, I need to know before we give the Head Count to DWCC. SSBC is obligated to pay DWCC $16.67 per person, based on your reservation Head Count provided.
If you sign-up with a reservation, but don't show-up, then SSBC can't subsidize your lack of attendance and we will bill you $16.67 per person, the full DWCC breakfast price. Notification of bona fide Emergencies with George Berry, BEFORE the GAM will be dealt with on a case by case basis.

Twelve dollars per person will be collected at the door for a hearty and delicious breakfast. Unfortunately, inflation of food & labor costs have necessitated the SSBC Board to raise the individual member meal cost to $12 per person (Please note that the SSBC subsidized only attendees to the GAM)

The 12/11/21 Christmas Event was a big success and was attended by about 80 folks. Our SSBC Volunteers were fantastic! The RipTides Band was awesome. We also held a Ugly Sweater Contest and selected 4 winners:1st Matthew Lanier, 2nd Sally Meagher, 3rd George Berry, 4th John Swick. Winners got some great prizes.

SSBC just received a new order of Hoodies & Tees. Kat Berry said the SSBC Blue & Green Hoodies were hot sellers at the Christmas Event. If you are interested in any SSBC Hoodies, Tees or Hats, Kat will have them at the Jan GAM or you can email her at [email protected], or call her to place your order at 252-999-2489. It's not too late to purchase these as Christmas gifts! One can pick up their order at the Berry's house on N. Dogwood Trail.

Come and socialize with all of your Boat Club Friends & Learn something Too!
